On Tuesday (28 December), Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has announced that the Covid-19 vaccine booster shot interval will be reduced from 6 to 3 months for most vaccine types. This applies to adults (18 years old and above) who were fully vaccinated with Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Moderna, Sinopharm, and CanSino Bio.
While many were rushing to their MySejahtera to check if they can register for the vaccines, the recent announcement said there’s no need to register for the booster shot, and appointments will be pushed out automatically via MySejahtera.
However, the appointments are sent out with priority given to senior citizens as well as individuals with comorbidities.
If you can’t wait, an alternative for you is to walk into one of the following Covid-19 vaccination centres for the booster shots.
- Paradigm Mall (Level 2 Lot 2F-20), Petaling Jaya
- KL Gateway Mall (The Ring, opposite Mr DIY, Level 2), Kuala Lumpur
- Subang Parade, 1st Floor (Lot F9 & F10) Subang
- iHeal Medical Centre, Menara IGB, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur
- Kelab Sukan & Rekreasi Port Klang
- IOI City Tower 1, Putrajaya
- The MINES 2
- Primer Cherang Clinic, Kota Damansara
However, do note that each vaccination centre has its own operating hours and individuals who have yet to get their first vaccination dose are also allowed to walk in to be vaccinated.
There are private clinics that are under ProtectHealth which provide Covid-19 vaccine shots too. The list of clinics can be found on the Health Ministry’s (KKM) website here. It is also recommended that you make an appointment with the clinic before getting there.
Meanwhile, Pfizer is the default booster dose for Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinovac recipients. For individuals fully vaccinated with AstraZeneca, you are permitted to get AstraZeneca as an alternative while Sinovac recipients are also permitted to get Sinovac as the alternative.
However, this depends on the availability of alternative vaccines for boosters and you can contact the vaccination center in advance to enquire. At the moment, Sinovac boosters are prioritised for individuals who can’t take Pfizer vaccines due to allergies or health reasons.
