The Women’s Ministry is prepared to give Counselling to those Suffered from the MCO

The Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed nationwide in Malaysia do not only have detrimental effects on our economy, but on the livelihood of the citizens too. A prolonged MCO could possibly bring negative effects to one psychologically too.

To curb the issue, the Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) Deputy Minister, Datuk Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said that the Ministry is now ready to provide counselling to those who were psychologically impacted by the MCO, and requires it to help them stand up on the feet again.

According to Sinar Harian, Siti Zailah said that the counselling will be conducted by experts from the Malaysia Board of Counsellers, with the cooperation from the agencies, which include the Ministry of Health (MOH).

“We understand the pressure that one faces during the pandemic, hence, the counsellors from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) nationwide is ready to provide their assistance too.”

“We also have the Talian Kasih at 15999, which they are always ready to lend their ears to those who are in trouble, especially for those were badly affected by Covid-19.” she said.

She added that the Ministry had a hotline at 019-261 5999 which the public can call at anytime to request for help, including counseling guidance conducted by their experts.

She mention that she noticed that mental health issues were increasingly being reported, as well as the loss of self-esteem due to the MCO imposed past few months.

The matter was being confirmed by the Social Community Programs Urban Society Malaysia (Scoprus) and Intelek Muda Nasional (Intelek), whereby they received several complaints from individuals who intend to take drastic steps to get out of their problems.

Nonetheless, the said bodies said that they received complaints from those who intend to take their lives from the Talian Kasih.

“Therefore, we would like to ask those who are facing problems to contact us for help. Apart from counselling, the Ministry will provide food baskets to ease their burden.” Siti Zailah added.

Mental health is part of us and it is required for us to stay healthy. If you are aware of somebody that needs counselling, you are advised to reach out to Talian Kasih here.
