SPM and STPM 2021 Candidates will be given priority for Covid-19 vaccination

Given that the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) and Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM) examination is slowly approaching, the authorities are of concern that the examination halls full of students will create new clusters, which will worsen the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia once more.

In a press conference with Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Khairy Jamaluddin today (18 June), they said that the candidates for SPM and STPM 2021 will be given priority for the Covid-19 vaccination.

“We are trying to get it done in July and complete the second dose by August. The Ministry of Education (MOE) plans to send the students back to school by the end of July or August.”

Nevertheless, the decision will largely depend on the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia and the number of daily cases will be one of the indicators if the examination classes will be reopened. Meanwhile, to ensure that the vaccination carried out smoothly, schools will be utilised as the Vaccine Administration Centres (PPV).

On Wednesday (16 June), Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that approval to use the Comirnaty vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech on individuals aged 12 and above had been given.

In addition, he mentioned that the decision was made at the 359th Drug Control Authority (PKBD) meeting.

Despite the announcement, the Ministers did not give any details on the vaccination process, or whether registration is needed.
