Senior Citizen nabbed over his comments on the Kedah MB for his “Container” Joke

Yesterday (9 August), a 61 year-old Malaysian man was arrested over his alleged insult to the Kedah Menteri Besar, Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over a remark he made to the reporters in asking them to “sign up to get into containers for the Covid-19 dead.”

According to FMT, Kuala Muda district police chief, Adzli Abu Shah confirmed the arrest of the man in Lenggong, Negeri Sembilan, after a complaint filed by Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s media officer.

Azdli said that the senior citizen was brought to Sungai Petani to be remanded, however, the magistrate did not allow the remand order and he was being released on police bail at 5 p.m. yesterday (9 August).

Previously, Sanusi had came under the limelight of social media for his remarks to a question by reporters on the status of containers for dead bodies at the Sungai Petani Hospital, following shortage of space at the morgue there.

Sanusi then replied that more containers will be made available as and when needed.

Unexpectedly, he then told the press “There are enough containers for dead bodies. Anyone who wants to enter, give your names.” while giving a big laugh.

The incident went viral on social media and netizens called out to Sanusi for being insensitive, as well as demanding his resignation as the Kedah MB. Following which, he apologised for this remark a day later.

Meanwhile, Adzli said that the case will be investigated for intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace, abuse of network services and insulting behaviour. He added that an investigation paper under Section 504 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 is being prepared and will be handed over to the prosecutors.

“We urge the public to not upload offensive content that could humiliate anyone to the extent of breaching the peace.” he said.

In the video that went viral, the senior citizen, who called himself “Tok Abah” was upset with Sanusi after he made the insensitive remarks to the well-meaning reporters who asked genuine questions on the rising Covid-19 cases in Sungai Petani.

The senior citizen said that his response to the reporters at the press conference were hurtful as many had been suffering from the pandemic and lockdowns. He then asked Sanusi if he treats the press conference was a “circus” and he could do anything he wanted.

He added that the press conference is a serious matter and it was watch by people as far as Brunei and Singapore, and Sanusi’s response had embarrassed Kedahans.

Meanwhile, he urged all Kedahans to lodge a police report against Sanusi for his remarks and threw harsh words at Sanusi, demanding him to “change his ways to be ethical” and “to follow the Rukun Negara”.

Nonetheless, he also roasted Sanusi for his alleged test drive issue and his stance towards the #BenderaPutih movement, telling him that the SOP violation fine he paid could have been donated to a mosque if he had followed the law.
