In the recent press release by the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Amirudin Shari, he unveiled another set of financial aid, called the Pakej Kita Selangor 2.0 to relief the burden of the pandemic on the citizens of Selangor.
The package involves a total value of RM551.56 million and among the goodies were subsidies of Internet packages that are targeted for the B40 and M40 groups.
In the first initiative, it is named “Data Internet Selangor” which it involves distributing SIM cards packed with unlimited data quota to the B40. It is estimated that up to 70,000 people will benefit from this initiative. In addition, this pack is also aimed at providing assistance to small businesses, students, single mothers, taxi drivers, senior citizens, and gig workers.
Those who are eligible under this category will only need to pay RM15 per month to the service provider. The state government will be providing a subsidy of RM20 to the original monthly fee of RM35. According to Amirudin, the state government has allocated RM 17.5 million to cover the subsidy which will last for 12 months.
On the other hand, the Skim Internet Selangor Kategori M40 (SISM40) is a collaboration between the state government and TM, where a subsidy between RM10 to RM30 per month for a year will be provided to those from the M40 group through 8 different packages. It is expected to be available to Selangor citizens starting 1 July 2021.
He mentioned that the details of the financial package will be announced on the Selangor official website in the near future at https://www.selangor.gov.my.
