Police to investigate Death of a Drug Suspect during Police Arrest

A man, who was believed to be a drug pusher, had collapsed and died when the police arrested him during a raid at a flat in Taman Dato Senu, Sentul on Monday (5 October).

According to The Star, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim confirmed that the police received a report lodged by the suspect’s niece at 3.15 a.m. on Wednesday (6 October).

Azmi explained that the suspect’s niece claimed that the police had used excessive force during the arrest, which then lead to the suspect’s death.

He added that the contingent’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will conduct a comprehensive investigation on the report.

“At about 5 p.m. yesterday, a team from the Sentul District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND) had conducted a raid at a flat as it was suspected that there were drug distribution activities around the area.”

“During the raid, the police arrested a male suspect and seized methamphetamine and heroin. After being arrested, the suspect suffered from shortness of breath and was pronounced dead by Kuala Lumpur medical officers.”

“The suspect’s body was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for post-mortem,” he was quoted saying by Berita Harian.

Meanwhile, Azmi also urge members of public with information related to the incident to contact the Kuala Lumpur Police Hotline at 03-2146 0584/585 or any nearby police station.

On Tuesday (5 October), Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Beh Eng Lai, said that the suspect acted aggressively when the police tried to stop him. There was a fight and the suspect tried to reach for a sickle but the police managed to nab him.

However, the suspect collapsed shortly after the fight and a medical officer who arrived 10 minutes later confirmed his death.

It was reported that the suspect’s mother and his 3 three nephews were present in the house during the raid.

The case has been classified as sudden death as of now.
