Police responds to Elderly Man who gets fined for not wearing a mask under a hut
As reported in Oriental Daily on 10 December 2020, an elderly man was fined RM1,000 for not wearing a mask while he was standing just in front of his house at Taman Eng Ann, Klang. This of course had caused this man to be upset and this case had gone viral since then.
What had happened?
According to this man, he was alone in a hut which is just a across the road, in front of his house. It was around 11p.m. when a police officer on patrol passed by and give him a fine for violating the SOPs.
As shown in the picture below, a photo of him sitting on a plastic chair negotiating with the police.
Being upset over the RM1,000 fine, the man had sought make this viral.
Response from the Police
Later on that day, North Klang district police chief ACP Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh issued a statement to clarify that the man was not fined in front of his house, but in a hut when the police found him. In the statement, she said that the hut was not far from his house.
Comments from the community
As this had gone viral, it had created some tension among the public. With SOPs being unclear and flip flops happen frequently, it seems that it’s best to not step out our homes.
