Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the meeting was held to uphold the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s wishes to cease political turmoil and focus on the efforts to steer Malaysia out of the shadows of Covid-19, as well as to protect lives and to free the people from economic woes due to the loss of jobs and income.
“Mutual agreement was also reached in strengthening the function of the Malaysian Parliament as a responsible and constructive institution, reviewing and balancing executive governance to be more transparent and meet the needs of the people.”
“I and the opposition leaders also agree and understand the importance of the independence of the judiciary, institutional reform and good governance to ensure a more conducive environment for the people and the country in the context of Keluarga Malaysia.” the statement said.
On the other hand, the Pakatan Harapan Presidential Council has in a statement said that they will held a meeting with key leaders from all Opposition parties to work together under one ‘big tent’ and to strengthen the opposition bloc comprising 105 members of parliament.
The statement also mention that the meeting will discuss the current political issues and get themselves prepared for the parliamentary session which set to resume on 6 September.
This includes the possibility of a special session being held earlier to discuss the motion of confidence against the Prime Minister and fill the vacancy of Deputy Speaker after the resignation of Datuk Seri Azlina Othman Said.
“Pakatan Harapan’s focus is towards becoming an effective Opposition by voicing criticism, reprimands, responsible recommendations, as well as presenting alternative proposals that are appropriate to Government policies, especially in relation to efforts to address Covid-19, revive the economy, and save lives.” the statement wrote.
At the same time, Pakatan Harapan will prioritise institutional reforms like Undi18, the Anti-Party Hopping Act and the improvement of the National Recovery Plan.
