M’sians are complaining about Grab’s ePemula offer that consists of only vouchers instead of credit

GrabPay is one of the eWallets identified by the Finance Ministry for the ePemula programme, which aims to promote cashless transactions.

Under this programme, youths between the ages of 18 to 20, or who are full-time university students, will be able to claim a one-off eWallet credit of RM150 starting 11 April until 1 June.

However, many have taken to social media to complain that the “RM150 credit” on the Grab app is actually just vouchers.

When compared to other eWallets such as BigPay, Touch ‘n Go eWallet, and Shopee, the RM150 credit can be used for offline purchases and the vouchers are something additional given by the eWallets.

As advertised, Grab is offering “RM360 worth of vouchers”, which includes RM150 for ePemula, RM150 for GrabFood, and RM60 for merchant promotions. This gives netizens an impression that the RM150 is supposed to be for ePemula credit instead of vouchers.

On social media, many shared screenshots of what they received from Grab for the ePemula credit and it showed that you’ll only receive vouchers and they’re also several small vouchers meant for separate purchases.

With this, many complained that Grab had “scammed” them as they, who claimed with Grab, are not given the proper RM150 worth of credit. Supposedly, users would be able to get a full RM150 for any offline transactions with the eWallet.

However, users were unable to do so with these vouchers. In addition, the terms and conditions for their ePemula “reward” are only “valid with a minimum spend of RM5/RM10/RM15/RM20/RM30”.

Meanwhile, Grab has responded to the complaints and said users will “get another RM150 worth of GrabFood Hot Deals vouchers and RM60 worth of various merchant partner vouchers”.
