M’sian Actor & Government To Take Legal Action Against Production Team After Gay Drama Went Viral

Malaysian actor Danish has recently made it to the nationwide headlines after his appearance in a local gay drama series promoting a gay dating service, without his knowledge about it.

The actor and TikTok conten creator has since then received tremendous backlash for his appearance in a web series titled “Stay Away From Me”, that appeared popular within the LGBTQ community.

Snippets of the drama that went viral among the community showed Danish with another actor portraying some romantically charged scenes that people find it difficult to accept.

Following the backlashes, Danish later came up with a series of statements on his Twitter account, explaining his side of the story. According to him, he initially had no idea that the drama will be promoted on the same-sex dating app.

“The contract didn’t directly state that the drama is about promoting the gay app. In fact, they didn’t inform me anything concerning the gay scenes.” Danish clarified.

“The production didn’t clarify about the gay app. They just gave the storyline which had nothing to do with those scenes. So they added certain scenes that aren’t in the storyboard at the last minute. So yeah, it was my fault for proceeding with the shooting. I won’t do it again. I was victimised by the circumstances.” he said.

Meanwhile, Danish also released a video on TikTok to apologise for his supposed mistake and requested netizens to stop making the issue viral. He said that will only help further promote the show and the app.

He also said his parents would be taking legal action against the production company for refusing to take responsibility in handling this matter and for tarnishing his image.

On Tuesday (7 December), the young actor took to his Instagram Story to say he will no longer issue any responses or statements after receiving advice from his legal representative. It is also revealed that his manager will hold a press conference in the near future to respond to the criticism.

With the series becoming the hot topic on social media, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) revealed that they’ll be referring the case to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to enable an investigation to be carried out, reported Gempak.

PAS Vice-President and Religious Affairs Minister Senator Idris Ahmad has also voiced out in response to the incident, saying that the LGBT culture is against the norms and the Malaysian culture.

He added that the state religious department may call upon the actor in question for confirmation.
