Argentina striker Lionel Messi, who left Barcelona after 21 years, signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain with an additional 12-month option, the French giants announced earlier this morning.
Messi, 34, will wear the number 30 jersey, the number he used when he started his career at Barca and is expected to be introduced by PSG during today’s press conference.
“I am happy to start a new challenge in my career with PSG,” he said in a statement on the club’s website.
“Anything about the club suits my footballing ambitions,” said Messi, who was hailed as a hero by PSG supporters after he arrived in the French capital.
“I know how talented this squad and their coaches are. I will help build something special for the club and the fans and am very excited to set foot in the Parc des Princes.”
Messi, who became a free agent after making a surprise announcement to leave the club since his teens, arrived at Le Bourget Airport in northern France last night.
He was greeted by hundreds of PSG supporters who had gathered since morning to catch a glimpse of the world -famous player while Messi, who wore a Paris shirt, waved to them before leaving the airport for a medical.
