Man in Klang Sets His Mother’s House On Fire After She Refused To Give Him Money

A man in Klang was detained by the police after he is believed to have set his family’s house on fire after his mother allegedly refused to give him money.

According to Berita Harian, the incident took place at Kampung Bukit Kapar, Selangor on 11 October where the 30 year-old suspect was detained in the area at about 6 p.m.

North Klang District Police Chief, S Vijaya Rao said the police received a report about the incident at 3.30 p.m. from a woman, where she said that she was at work when she was informed that her house was on fire and immediately rushed home.

When she reached home, she found that her semi-detached village house was engulfed by the flames and the firefighters were already there to put out the raging fire.

Meanwhile, the investigation found that the complaint is the niece of the suspect and lives next door to his house.

She revealed that the suspect has confronted his mother, who is also the complainant’s grandmother, to ask for money.

However, after failing to get some cash from his mother, the suspect threatened to burn down the house if his mother did not give him the money.

The suspect was then believed to have proceeded to do so as his mother refused to gave him money.

According to Selangor Fire Director, Norazam Khamis, he said a team of firefighters from Kapar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) and Kota Anggerik BBP were sent to the location after receiving a distress call at 3.34 p.m.

He added that they manage to bring the situation under control at about 3.50 p.m.

“No casualties were reported in the incident.” he said.

The investigations also found that the suspect was unemployed and was just been released from prison for drug offences.

S Vijaya said that the suspect will be remanded for 4 days until 15 October while the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire with the intention of causing damage to property.

If found guilty of the offence, the accused shall be punished with imprisonment for up to 14 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
