Ismail’s new Government will be called “Kerajaan Keluarga Malaysia”

Yesterday (27 August), the UMNO Supreme Council has reaffirmed their support for Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the 9th Prime Minister of Malaysia but they also made it clear that Ismail’s administration must deliver positive results.

According to Astro Awani, UMNO President, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the party will assist the Prime Minister to ensure his administration runs smoothly too.

Meanwhile, he also said that the Supreme Council has agreed with the “Keluarga Malaysia” (“Malaysian Family”) or “Kerajaan Malaysia” (“Malaysian Government”) as their concept and they should no longer being associated to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

When asked for the name of the government, “We prefer that he calls it Kerajaan Keluarga Malaysia.” Zahid said, as reported by FMT.

Apart from that, the Supreme Council also highlighted several key issues had been discussed in the meeting, including expediting some institutional reforms. They added that these are in line with His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s call for a cross-party cooperation and consensus to jointly manage the economic crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic and the well-being of the people.

“The new government must immediately focus on efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic and the vaccination process, in order to achieve herd immunity that can reduce the risk of death due to virus infections.” he added.

Ahmad Zahid said the government must be responsive to the wishes and demands of the people when it comes to their welfare and well-being, including the improvement of the assistance packages.

This includes the Bantuan Prihatin Nasional (BPN), Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat (BPR) Bantuan Khas COVID-19 (BKC), in addition to the moratorium which waives the accrued interest on delayed payments, i-Citra withdrawal on a one-off basis with a minimum amount of RM10,000 and assistance to the SMEs whom are severely affected by the pandemic.

He added that the government will need to uphold the principles of a democratic country and keep the check and balance system in a government.

“The government should also immediately set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate all revelations made by Tommy Thomas on political interference in the Attorney General’s, Judiciary and Security institutions, and uphold the Supremacy of the Constitution and the Rule of Law.”

“UMNO must be a pioneer in institutional reforms.” he added.

This includes to create a more efficient Parliament, transparent and clean administration, political funding, Anti-Party Hopping Act, political intervention in various institutions that are the against the rule of law.

Those institutions which allegedly suffered from political intervention includes the Attorney General, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Royal Police Malaysia and others.
