Removing dead skin cells reveals the young and smooth skin beneath it, giving you a younger and healthier complexion. It unclog your pores and helps in reducing acne too.
There are a few methods that we can use to exfoliate our face, and they are the manual exfoliation and chemical exfoliation.
This method involves using tools to scrub the dead skins off. However, you should be gentle too, as scrubbing too hard will damage your skin and make them turn red. Follow the instructions below for the different kinds of tools available.
- Soak an ordinary cloth into the warm water.
- Wet your face and start rubbing your face with the cloth.
- Make small circles on the area that you are cleansing.
You can use a sponge to do it too, or a better one, face scrub. It is more effective than cloth and sponge, however, you’ll need to avoid scrubs with hard bits that do not dissolve. such as nutshells. They can cause micro tears and irritation to your skin if not carefully applied.
Chemical exfoliation involves using mild acid to dissolve dead skin cells. Don’t be shocked as the acid content in the products are low levels of chemical exfoliants and it is perfectly safe for use. However, they might not be suitable for those who have dry or sensitive skin.
There are typically 2 types of chemical exfoliants, and they are alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and beta hydroxy acid (BHA).
These 2 types of exfoliants are similar but they each have their own strengths. AHA works on dissolving the top layer of the skin and make pores smaller. It can lessen the appearances of fine lines too. Whereas, BHA penetrate into the pores and unclog them.
