The Delta variant does not only have the ability to be transmitted through air just within 15 seconds, but a recent study found that the dominant variant could even reproduce in the noses of individuals who had already been vaccinated.
According to the Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, he shared that the recent study found the Delta variant virus multiplied in the noses of vaccinated individuals as if the individual had not been vaccinated.
“The virus that multiplies is equally contagious to people who have not been vaccinated. This means that individuals who have been vaccinated can still spread the virus and infect others.” he said.
Meanwhile, he added the previous studies conducted in hospitals in India, Provincetown, Massachusetts and Finland also have the same findings, where individuals after infected with the Delta variant showed many viruses being detected in their nose whether they were vaccinated or not.
Previously, Dr Noor Hisham had reported that the Delta variant is capable of spreading through the air in as short as 15 seconds.
This basically means that exposed individuals could spread the virus in less than 15 seconds at a distance of 1 meter.
Hence, it is clear that the Delta variant is highly contagious even among vaccinated individuals.
However, he stress that vaccinated individuals are still protected from severe Covid-19 symptoms and death too.
Lastly, he reminded everybody to get vaccinated as soon as possible when they have the opportunity to do so.
