An elderly driver, who was overwhelmed with fear after she collided with a motorcyclist that changed his direction out of a sudden, had continued stepping on the gas pedal while dragging the motorcycle for over 8 kilometers.
According to Kosmo, the incident took place last Wednesday (15 December) at 1.45 p.m. and the 73-year-old Mitsubishi driver caused road users to panic after she refused to stop her vehicle after the collision.
Muar District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zaharudin Rasip said the Mitsubishi driver failed to dodge the motorcycle in front of her vehicle who had suddenly changed his direction.
“The investigation found that when they are at Jalan Temenggong Ahmad, the motorcyclist changed direction from left to right of the road, causing the Mitsubishi driver behind the victim to be unable to stop her vehicle in time and crashed into the motorcycle.”
“In the incident, the victim was in fear and she refused to get out of her vehicle.”
“The woman then accelerated her vehicle until she reach the Parit Jawa Police Station while dragging the victim’s motorcycle for over 8 kilometers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zaharudin said the motorcyclist suffered slight injuries and was being treated at Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) Muar.
The police also found that the elderly woman was not driving under the influence of alcohol.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) APJ. We urge road users to always be careful and abide by the rules to avoid unwanted incidents or worse,” he said.
Earlier, a video of a Mitsubishi vehicle dragging a motorcycle that was stuck in its front tyre went viral on social media.
