Yesterday (13 June), Sungai Petani UMNO division chief, Dato’ Shahanim Mohammad Yusoff took it to her Facebook, saying that foreign workers were being transported to their living quarters after being tested positive for Covid-19.
She mentioned that many factories were allowed to open despite the Full Movement Control Order (FMCO) is in place shows that the Government cared only about the economy and not the citizens.
However, the post did not went viral because of her statements, but because of the the photos she shared.
After netizens spotted how the foreign workers were being transported, they demanded that the the Malaysian Immigration Department to take action against the boss of the factory for treating their workings in such an unpleasant manner.
Up to 48 foreign workers were packed in a lorry and it was reported that the factory operator had booked a lorry to transport its employees instead of a bus or a ferry.
Netizens commented “Action should be taken against the factory operator and the person who booked the transport for the 48 foreign workers. This is inhumane as if humans were chickens.”
According to Berita Harian, Kuala Muda District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Adzli Abu Shah said that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) managed to track down the lorry based on the videos and pictures that went viral on social media.
He added that the PDRM officers were able to stop the lorry at Sungai Lalang, Bedong while it was on its way back to the factory hostel from the district health office.
Further investigation shows that the factory operator arranged three trips for the lorry to bring all 135 Covid-19 positive employees back to their living quarters.
He said that the lorry driver was given a summon for using a driving vehicle license (LKM) for other purposes under Section 23 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Meanwhile, the factory management is also being investigated for failing to comply with an order issued by an authorised officer under section Section 22 (b) of Act 342 and for negligent acts that may spread life-threatening diseases under Section 270 of the Penal Code.
