‘Empty’ Taiping sets example for Malaysians for practicing ‘Self-lockdown’

Following the advice from Health Director-General, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham to practice self-lockdown, this citizens from Taiping, Perak had taken it seriously and only go out with it is absolutely necessary.

The Taiping Municipal Council had in Facebook share photos of the empty streets of Taiping on the first day of the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) implementation.

In the Facebook post, they wrote “The current situation in the city of Taiping on the first day of EMCO. To the residents of Taiping County, obey the SOPs and government instruction. Please stay at home if you do not have any important matters to attend to,”

The photos shared showed an empty street and roads with only a handful of residents around. Even shops and malls were left empty as if it was an empty town.

Previously, there were similar photos taken in Taipei, Taiwan as the citizens practice ‘Self-lockdown’ after a surge in domestic Covid-19 cases. Meanwhile, the idea of ‘self-lockdown’ were inspired after Dr Noor Hisham notice this from the citizens of Taipei.

The Malaysian authorities had then urge Malaysians to practice a similar approach as it is the best method for us to curb the Covid-19 in Malaysia.
