Malaysian athelete, Welson Sim had become the trending searches on social media after his appearance at the opening ceremony at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Friday (23 July).
The 24 year-old Malaysian athlete was born in Kuching, Sarawak and is representing Malaysia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the Men’s 200m and 400m swimming freestyle category.
Despite having his mask on, he caught the attention of netizens from China and Thailand with just his dashing looks. One netizen said “The handsome boy from Malaysia’s team, this is so great, boys who swim are so handsome!”
On the China’s social media platform Weibo, netizens circulated his Instagram photos and account, calling him as someone who “leaves big impression even after just a glimpse”.
Welson first came under the spotlight since the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games where he won gold medals for both Men’s 200m and 400m freestyle at the National Aquatics center, Bukit Jalil.
Welson is set to participate in the Men’s 200m freestyle today along with another national swimmer Phee Jinq En who is competing in the women’s 100m breaststroke.
Despite failing to make it into the Men’s 400m freestyle final at the Tokyo Olympics, Welson Sim had already won over the hearts of the girls from multiple countries.
Nonetheless, we hope the best for Welson and the Malaysia team for their upcoming competition. We are always proud of you!
