Cyberpunk 2077: Supposed to be the biggest video game of the Year but it failed
Cyberpunk 2077 video game had been released on 10 December 2020. It should be the biggest video game of the year, but it was a disappointment to many. The game was full of glitches and millions of players had requested for refunds, and it had attracted possible class-action lawsuit.
What went wrong?
Cyberpunk 2077 was an ambitious project carried out by CD Projekt RED (CDPR) after claimed the success of The Witcher 3. After years of growing hype for Cyberpunk, the disappointment from the game that players get was huge. Cyberpunk 2077 was a buggy mess and an overly ambitious bag of unfulfilled promises and shallow facsimiles of expectations.
According to the review from Upper Echelon Gamers, here a a list of glitches that will cause the game to be not playable.
- Save file corruption on PC, where when the file exceeds 8mb, they get corrupted not unplayable. File size increases primarily due to game time and activity being done in the game.
- Economies in game which had not been calibrated properly. Some might say it’s an exploit, where others say it’s a bad design.
- Dozens of equipment crafting exploits or duplication.
- Impression that you can play as much as you want, but many of the game’s system does not support that function.
To be able to play the game, you will need to have a separate save file which is before it get corrupts. This method will cause you to lose huge amount of progress. Where the other method is stop using the equipment crafting system. Else, you will need to start over the game completely.
Thou there was a game tester who had play the game for around 175 hours, and he had not done everything that the game has. As commented by Upper Echelon Gamers, he thinks that the game tester is playing the game in a casual and slow progressing way. This is completely opposite from one who understands the game and using the exploits from the crafting module.
Furthermore, the support given by the developer was somewhat generic and does not fundamentally solve the problem. There is a statement released by them commenting that the game was not designed for unlimited and endless game play. Cyberpunk 2077 was designed with upper limits to avoid issues somewhere else in the game.
Hence, the final advice given was to not do things that exceed the limits and start a new game. Don’t continue saving and reloading the same character for too long and don’t craft thousands of items at once.
Credits to be given
Despite all the glitches and bugs that cost the game, there is something that is worth giving credit to Cyberpunk 2077. The narrative in the game gives you genuinely interesting narrative experience. The concept of the game is as revolutionizing the open-world first-person RPG too. However, much work is needed to be done to fix all the issues noted from the game.
Refunds and litigation
Being unable to meet expectations of players from around the world, most of them had sought for refunds from distributors and to ensure high level of customer satisfaction, Sony and Microsoft will be offering full refunds for all who have purchased Cyberpunk 2077 through their online stores.
This is not the worst for CDPR. Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP, which is based in New York, USA, had done some investigation on the case and claimed that CDPR had issued materially misleading information the their shareholders and the public and had ask all investors of the project who have incurred losses to contact them for potential action.
Cyberpunk 2077 could be potentially the best video game for year 2020. However, the specifications of the game does not match the expectation that CDPR that conveyed to all the fans whom have waited a anxiously for this game. The disappointment they get after realizing that the game was not was not as marketed, they sought for refunds.
