On Monday (23 August), a Covid-19 patient at Sungai Buloh Hospital got himself seriously injured after falling from the 5th floor while he attempted to escape through a window.
According to Harian Metro and Utusan Malaysia, the incident was reported to take place at 3.20 p.m. when the 33 year-old man was admitted to the hospital ward at 3 a.m. on the same day for testing positive for Covid-19.
Sungai Buloh District Police Chief, Superintendent Shafa’aton Abu Bakar said the depressed-looking patient tried to get out of the ward but was stopped by a nurse.
“The male patient acted aggressively towards a nurse by punching them in the face and chased after the nurse who tried to stop him from getting out of the ward.” he said.
“He also disturbed the other patients before moving to the window of the ward and attempting to escape.” he explained.
He added that other hospital staff noticed the commotion going around and tried to rescue the patient. However, they were not able to reach him in time and he fell to the ground floor of the building.
The patient then sustained serious injuries to his face and body and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to receive further treatment.
Shafa’aton said the case is still under police investigation.
Previously, a video of the incident went viral on social media. The video showed the man, who had already climbed out of the window, resisted assistance from the hospital staff, while other onlookers screamed in fear.
