A 3 year-old girl was found dead after she was left in a car for about 5 hours in Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram, Johor on 25 April.
According to Seri Alam district police chief, Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, they had received a report from Sultan Ismail Hospital (HSI) on the tragic incident at about 6.40pm. He said that the child was “brought in dead”.
Further investigations reveals that the girl’s grandmother, 59 took the victim and her sister to school in Sungai Tiram at about 1 p.m. in a Perodua Alza. The victim was left in the Perodua Alza car at her house in Kampung Sungai Tiram, Ulu Tiram. The grandmother did not realise that she left the child inside the car and had turned off the car engine.
“At 6pm, the victim’s mother realised the victim was not in the house and had searched around the house area but could not find her,” he said.
“It is only then that the grandmother realised that the victim was still inside the car where they found her lying unconscious on the floor of the rear passenger seats” he added.
The post-mortem results found that the victim’s body was healthy and she did not suffer any bruises or injuries that could have been caused by abuse. Doctors had confirmed that the victim had died of heatstroke.
Meanwhile, the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a jail term not exceeding 20 years or fined not more than RM50,000 or both upon conviction.
