“Cherry Blossom” in Malaysia, painting the town in Pink and White

Do the pictures remind you of the Sakura trees from Japan? No! It’s actually taken in Malaysia.

These beautiful scenery are the Tecoma trees in Malaysia showering the town and streets with petals of white, pink and purple. These trees usually bloom between February and April, when the weather is usually scorching hot.

Where can you find them?

Penang

This picture is taken at Taman Bagan Lalang in Butterworth and you can see the road and the shelter was being covered with blossoms. These blossoms can also be found in places like Taman Sri Nibong Recreational Park and Bay Avenue in Bayan Lepas or along Jalan Dato Keramat in George Town.

The Penang City Council had initiated the Penang Sakura 333 Project with a goal to plant 33,333 Tecoma trees in Georgetown over the period of 5 years.

Kuala Lumpur

Tecoma trees are planted along the streets of Kuala Lumpur, from the roadsides of Setapak to the street along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) exit to the International Islamic University of Malaysia in Gombak. During the blossom season, you can even see sprays of bright pink at the Gombak Toll.

Cyberjaya

This one’s taken at Taman Tasik Cyberjaya, where boulevards lined with white and pink Tecoma trees stand proudly, giving you a mix of white and pink blossoms. You can also head to Taman Putra Perdana to capture more showers of pink blossoms on roads and parked cars.

Alor Setar

Kota Setar district in Kedah is home to over 500 Tecoma trees and it had been the destination of locals and visitors with its abundance of pink and white blossoms. This photo was taken at Lagenda Height in Sungai Petani, while you can visit AlBukhary Mosque in Alor Setar and the streets of Jalan Kuala Kedah, Jalan Langgar and Jalan Yan if you are looking for more of them!

Melacca

A popular place to see Tecoma trees blossom in Melaka is Masjid Tanah in Alor Gajah. Around these times, many will gather in the area and start snapping and sharing photos taken in Durian Tunggal.

Other towns and townships in Melaka where these eye-catching blooms can also be found include Lendu, Rembia, Taman Cheng, Paya Rumput and Sungai Udang.
