A motorist was killed on the spot, whereas several others were injured after a vehicle exploded at Kampung Sirih, Kelantan yesterday (21 May).
The vehicle was believed to be loaded with firecrackers when it was struck by lightning.
According to Berita Harian, the explosion was so big that it threw the victim 20 metres from the scene of the incident, as well as tearing his vehicle in two.
Meanwhile, 4 other vehicles were damaged by the explosion and their drivers sustained injuries.
The incident happened around 5 p.m. and the Assistant Director of Kelantan Fire Operations, Mohd Wildan Azhari confirmed that an emergency was reported at 5.34 p.m. which they rush to the scene immediately.
It took more than an hour before the firemen were able to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said that all those injured were currently being treated in the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZII).
He said that the vehicle is believed to have been struck by lightning and they are not ruling out the possibility that the car was carrying firecrackers. The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.
