Baby found alive in the trash

A baby boy was found alive in a rubbish bin near a supermarket in Taman Indah Permai, Manggatal, here, last night.

Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, George Abd Rakman said, in the incident at about 7 pm, the baby was believed to be a newborn was found by a man in his 30s.

He said the initial investigation found that the man involved, who declined to be identified, claimed to have heard a whining sound which was initially thought to be a cat.

“The man involved, who was shocked by the discovery of the baby, immediately called the MERS 999 emergency call center to inform of the incident.

“Police who arrived at the scene continued to investigate and the baby was handed over to the ambulance team for further action,” he said when contacted, today.

George said the baby was then sent to Likas Women and Children’s Hospital (HWKKS) for examination and treatment.

He said further investigations were being carried out to track down the suspects involved and the case was being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for the offense of discarding a baby.
