Authorities Seizes Over RM200,000 Of Unregistered Medicines In Negri Sembilan

The Negri Sembilan Health Department has seized various unregistered medicines and unnotified cosmetics which is believed to worth around RM217,000 in the several raids conducted around the district last Thursday (21 October).

According to Bernama, the state deputy health director (public health), Dr Mohammad Faid Abd Rashid said the joint operation was carried out by the Pharmacy Enforcement Branch (CPF) and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Negri Sembilan police contingent headquarters.

“The raids conducted at two houses and a vehicle found 90 types of unregistered medicines and unnotified cosmetics. Based on the information obtained by the Negeri Sembilan CPF, the premises were believed to have a market network in this state, Pahang and Johor.” he said.

He also said that individuals or companies who are found to be involved in selling and distribution of these medicines and cosmetics will be investigated under the Sale of Drugs Act 1952.

The punishment under the act for first-time offenders can be fined not exceeding RM25,000 or jailed not more than three years or both and while those who had committed the offence again will be fined up to RM50,000 or jailed not more than five years or both.

For companies which are convicted of the offences can be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offence and up to RM100,000 for subsequent offences.

Meanwhile, Faid said the Health Ministry will continue carrying out enforcement activities to ensure that only registered and genuine products are sold in the market.

He also advised the public to be careful when purchasing health and cosmetics products.

He suggested consumers can check the authenticity of the product through the FarmaTagTM hologram label on the products by using the FarmaChecker application.

Alternatively, he said that consumers can check the validity of products and cosmetics registration numbers at or contact the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency at 03-7883-5400 or download the NPRA Product Status application for free via Google Play Store, AppStore and Huawei AppGallery, he said.
