Another Incident Of Ambulance Having To Make Way For VIP Convoy

Last week, a video of an ambulance forced to give way for a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) escort convoy of VIPs at an intersection went viral on social media with many questioning the misplaced priority.

Being a driver in Malaysia, we are taught to give priority to emergency vehicles, but it seems that this rule does not apply to a certain group.

Unfortunately, a similar incident had just happened again and the video of the incident was shared by a TikTok user known as @5zonesmy.

It is believed that the incident took place along the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Express Highway and there was a massive traffic congestion was built up after cars had to stop to make way for the VIP convoy.

Naturally, the ambulance was trapped within the traffic and was forced to stop.

In the comment section, netizens expressed their disappointment that nothing has changed despite moving into a new year.

In addition, this was the second time the police had been doing such a thing despite the controversy which stemmed from the previous incident.

Meanwhile, some pointed out that holding up an ambulance could literally mean the difference between life and death.

In fact, Rule 9 of Road Traffic Rules 1959 states that emergency vehicles on duty have the right of way over all other traffic. This means that ambulances, should be given priority over everyone else so that it reaches hospital safely and as fast as possible.

We do hope that the police will give more attention to this the next time they lead a VIP convoy.
