Almost 90% of Malaysians are of opinion that the PN Government failed to drive Malaysia out of Covid-19

Covid-19 had been a health crisis for nations worldwide and it is the same for Malaysia. Nonetheless, some countries managed to keep the situation under control and curb the spread but unfortunately, Malaysia is not one of them.

Yesterday (11 July), the former Prime Minister, Najib Razak launched a poll on Facebook with the caption “Most ministers do not agree so we leave this question to the people. Has the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government failed to manage Covid-19 and failed to manage the well-being of the people?”

Just within 2 hours, the poll garnered over 104,000 responses with a whooping 88% of respondents agreed that the PN government failed to implement effective policies to handle the Covid-19 situation in Malaysia.

Najib also pointed out that the Ministers of the PN government do not agree that they have failed in this aspect, hence, he leave it to Malaysians to comment on it.

Earlier on, Najib had made a comparison between Malaysia and the western countries, including the United Kingdom (UK) and United States (US). He said that the both UK and US had lifted most of their restrictions and SOPs set to curb the spread of the virus.

In addition, they have opened up their economic sectors as most of their population had been vaccinated. In contrast, even if Malaysia maintains its vaccination rate of 300,000 doses per day, it would take Malaysia months before we reach herd immunity, and open up our economic sector.

At the same time, the death rate from Covid-19 in the UK has fallen drastically.

He also mentioned that the UK and US understands that the vaccine do not provide 100% protection from the Covid-19 infection but those who have been vaccinated will not get seriously ill even though infected. This effectively reduces the burden on their healthcare system.

Nonetheless, he believes that Malaysia’s infection rate is much higher if compared to the ASEAN countries.
