“Congratulations for championing the plight of the Chinese” Terengganu Exco gets slammed by netizens for allegedly making sarcastic remarks

Social News"Congratulations for championing the plight of the Chinese" Terengganu Exco gets slammed...

The rising cost of living affects everybody in the nation, and it does not differentiate by our race. However, it seems that some are unhappy when the government spends effort to combat the rising prices of consumables that Muslims do not use.

Recently, the Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Chan Foong Hin announced that his ministry will be tabling a proposal to stabilise pork prices at the Cabinet.

This initiative has earned a criticism from the the Jabi assemblyman and Terengganu state exco Dr Azman Ibrahim as he took to his Twitter page to ‘congratulate’ the government for championing the plight of the Chinese.

“Congratulations Deputy Minister of MAFS Chan Foong Hin for taking a step forward to champion the plight of the Chinese,” Azman wrote.

Along with his tweet, he shared a screenshot of a Malaysiakini news article, titled ‘Cadangan Stabilkan Harga Babi Dibawa ke Kabinet Esok’ (Proposal to stabilise Pork Prices to be brought up in Cabinet tomorrow).

Chinese not the only community consuming pork

However, netizens were not receiving this congratulatory note well and thought the PAS leader was just being sarcastic about it.

One netizen pointed out that the Chinese are not the only ones who consume pork.

“Not only the Chinese eat pork. Many non-Muslims, including Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak consume pork. We are Malaysians too and have the right to purchase goods at a reasonable price. The government must make sure of this,” the netizen said.

“Does he think that only Malays should enjoy cheaper consumables? Does he think only the Chinese consume pork?” another netizen asked.

In the article by Malaysiakini, Chan said the proposal to stabilise pork prices would be tabled in light of the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations.

The matter was announced by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub after a meeting with MAFS which was represented by Chan.
