A spectator was killed after being by a race car during the CCT Battle of Champion race that was held at Dato’ Sagor Circuit in Pasir Salak on 31 December 2022.
According to Bernama, Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the victim entered the circuit to take video with his mobile phone before a car lost control and crashed into him.
The victim died while receiving treatment at Changkat Melintang Hospital, Lambor Kanan.
“The autopsy revealed that the victim, a workshop operator, died of injuries to his head and bleeding in the lungs. Investigations are ongoing and the case has been classified as sudden death,” he said.
In a viral video, it showed a red car trying to overtake a yellow car that was not letting up. They then touched each other, causing the red car to lose control while the yellow car continued on.
The red car then crashed into a spectator who was standing in the grassy area.
After the dust particles settled, spectators and medical officers ran to check on the victim. An ambulance then rushed the victim to the hospital but unfortunately, he died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Perak state Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah said they are waiting for the full report from the organiser of the race before they decide on the next course of action.
“The state government will look into many aspects including the safety of spectators, racers and staff working during the event,” he said.
At the same time, Khairudin also expressed condolence to the family of the victim.
