The Merdeka 118 was crowed as the world’s second tallest building after the completion of the spire of the building in 2021.
Recently, the daredevil couple Ivan Beerkus and Angela Nikolau uploaded a couple of photos of themselves standing at the peak of the building on SkyscraperCity.com.
The Russian couple is known for their antics and death-defying stunts on the top of towers around the world.
“I was on the top of the spire. It was insane,” Ivan wrote on the webpage.
It is believed that the images were captured with a drone, after they climbed the tower on the ladders inside.
Meanwhile, Ivan also posted about the building on his Instagram page.
“I heard many stories about trying to climb this building illegally. The saddest one was of a person who ended in prison for several months.”
“There were many closed doors and CCTV cameras inside the building which makes it the most desirable building in the world,” he said.
Where’s the security?
Meanwhile, the photos were re-uploaded to Malaysia’s subreddit, with many netizens questioning the security of the building.
“Congrats to the security team,” a netizen said.
“The security must be screwed big time if this was illegal,” another netizen said.
According to New Straits Times, it has not been verified whether anyone has been jailed for attempting to climb the tower, as claimed by Beerkus.
Nonetheless, in 2009, Frenchman Alain Robert, also known as the “French Spiderman”, was arrested for climbing the Petronas Twin Towers. He was fined RM2,000 for pulling off that stun.
