The celebrations for Christmas and Chinese New Year are pretty close to each other this year, with a gap of about a month.
While we are still celebrating Christmas, a mall in Sabah decided to fuse both celebrations into one very unique decor. As a result of the mash-up, snowflakes, snowmen and reindeer with lanterns, rabbits and the God of Prosperity were seen in the mall.
In a Facebook post, the shopping mall wrote, “Two celebrations, one message: may your holiday season be filled with love, laughter, and joy.”
Meanwhile, many netizens were confused by the fusion done by the mall and had mixed opinions about it.
Among the comments were, “This is like Santa Claus came to town on a lion dance”, “If it’s like this, then Santa will probably be putting limes in the Christmas stockings.”
On the other hand, some said that the decorations were not Christmas enough and it was leaning more towards Chinese New Year.
“Respect those who celebrate Christmas, give way to Christmas first then only CNY. This is respect,” one netizen said.
“Should focus on Christmas decorations first since Christmas is just a few days away. This affects my mood for Christmas. The theme is incorrect,” another netizen said.
Meanwhile, some were impressed by the mall’s initiative to be cost-efficient and environmentally friendly.
“2 in 1, save cost and environmentally friendly. Well done Suria for the advanced modern mindset!” the netizen said.
Either way, we wish those celebrating a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
