A Pahang housewife was conned out of over RM100,000 after being duped into believing that she had a package waiting for her, a practise known as a parcel scam, according to Harian Metro.

The woman in her 40s met the suspect online, according to Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf, the chief of police in Pahang.

After a few days, the suspect informed the victim that a gift had been left for her as a friendship token.

“She was later informed by the parcel delivery company via a text message that the package was unable to be delivered as it contained cash and valuables inside.

“In order to release the parcel, she made a total of 14 transactions amounting to RM98,999, which was transferred to four different bank accounts,” he said in a statement.

According to Ramli, the victim was informed that the payments were for tax relief, SST tax, property declaration, anti-violence certificate, and exclusive transfer costs.

“She made the payments using the money from her husband’s business savings,” he said.
