The heavy downpour in Kajang, Selangor that took place last Wednesday (30 November) caused a group of students from Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Sungai Balak to sit for their exam in a flooded classroom.

A 16-second video showing the dreadful moment of students sitting for their Al-Quran dan Fardhu’Ain class (KAFA) national exam in a flooded classroom has since gone viral on TikTok.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis confirmed the incident and explained that the religious school was located in a low-lying area that was often hit by flash floods.

He said that the water level started rising at around 4.30 pm due to the heavy rain that lasted for over an hour.

“The flooding affected a total of 64 11-year-old pupils who were sitting for their UPKK under the supervision of eight teachers,” he was quoted saying.

Situation was under control

He added that the situation was brought under control and there were no untoward incidents. The water later receded at about 7 pm.

It was reported that the water level reached 0.6 metres and affected only area around the school.

Meanwhile, Bangi member of parliament (MP) Syahredzan Johan tweeted about a visit his visit to SRA Sungai Balak and said that the authorities will do a follow-up to resolve this issue.

Along with him was Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) councillor Dickson Tan, village chief Bahron Zaman, and Sungai Balak village head Tok Zainurin to see the condition of the school after the flood.
