After failing to form a unity government with the other coalitions, Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the coalition would play the Opposition role in the 15th Parliament to provide checks and balances to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) unity government.
For that purpose, PAS information chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin reveals that PN will be forming a shadow cabinet.
He said this when appearing on an Astro Awani programme last night (29 November), where he said PN will be a constructive, collaborative, responsible and loyal opposition for the benefit of the country.
“We are in the process of setting up a shadow cabinet. We have led the country before under the PN government and later Keluarga Malaysia government by former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.”
“I am optimistic that the cooperation between the current government and the Opposition can be established just like before, to jointly solve the country’s problems and put Malaysia back to the world stage.”
“I am also confident that the same ‘template’ will be brought by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, for us to create a powerful force,” he was quoted as saying.
Importance of Opposition
Khairil stressed that being the Opposition, PN plays an important role in moving the Parliament’s transformation agenda, along with supporting the cabinet.
“If there is a body or committee where the opposition is to lead it, why not?”
“Even before this, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) was led by DAP,” he said.
