DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has apologised to the people of Sarawak and the state government for any offensive statements that his party members made in the past.

In a statement on Facebook, Loke said he had a ‘friendly’ meeting with the Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Dr Sim Kui Hian this morning to woo for their support to form the next federal government.

“I had informed the Sarawak premier that if there were any statements made by DAP leaders previously that offended the Sarawak government and people, I, representing DAP, apologise openly,” the DAP leader said.

One of such remark that remains a fresh wound on GPS’ mind was the comment made by then Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng in June 2019 as he claimed that Sarawak would “go bankrupt” if it continued to be under GPS rule.

Nonetheless, Loke also said the meeting with the 2 GPS leaders would open a new page for Malaysia’s political landscape, towards building greater understanding and cooperation for the nation’s sake.

Lim Guan Eng apologises too!

In a statement on Facebook, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng publicly apologise to Sarawak premier Abang Johari Openg and the GPS state government.

“I apologise for my remarks that may have offended the Sarawak Premier and the GPS Sarawak state government,” he said.

In his apology, Lim said the future of the country was more important.

“Let us make a fresh start to cooperate together to preserve the diversity, inclusiveness and unity of our multi-racial and multi-cultural society as well as protect our Federal Constitution for the benefit of all in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak,” Lim said.

Earlier, there were rumours that say GPS is not willing to work with PH due to the presence of DAP in the coalition.

That’s very nobel

Meanwhile, Loke’s statement were well received by netizens who praised him for his selfless act.

“Very noble attitude by this YB. Very touched by your gesture. You are a winner,” a netizen said.

“You did well YB. Yes, a few of the top guns were arrogant previously. This move shows your sincerity in moving forward and hope it’ll close this uncertainty very very soon,” a netizen said.
