BN supports the unity government that is not led by PN

NewsBN supports the unity government that is not led by PN

UMNO will support the idea of being part of a unity government as proposed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, but only if it is not led by Perikatan Nasional (PN), said the UMNO supreme council.

In a statement, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the decision was made unanimously at the UMNO special Supreme Council meeting, chaired by party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on Wednesday (23 November).

“This is to ensure that a stable and prosperous government can be formed,” he said.

However, that government must not be led by PN, he added.

Meanwhile, Ahmad also said that the UMNO Supreme Council meeting has reaffirmed its support for Ahmad Zahid to remain as BN’s chairman and unanimously backed him as UMNO president.

He said that the Supreme Council took note and reviewed the details carried out in the discussion by the BN negotiation committee with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and PN.

The 2022 UMNO general assembly would be held on 21 to 24 December.

It will finally come to an end

The 15th General Election ended with PH capturing 82 seats, PN (73), BN (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (23), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (6), Parti Warisan (three), Independent (two) while Parti Bangsa Malaysia and Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat won one seat each.

This means that no one single party or political bloc managed to get a majority, resulting in a hung Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Special Meeting of the Malay Rulers will be held today to seek the views of the Malay Rulers concerning the formation of the new Federal Government.

It is also expected that BN will work with PH to form the next federal government, given that it has now announced that it will support a unity government that is not led by PN.
