After losing GE15, Mahathir said he will focus on writing book about Malaysia’s history

It has been five days since the 15th General Election (GE15) results were announced, and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has finally broken his silence to share his thoughts on his candidacy, as well as what he plans to do next.

In a statement on Facebook, Dr Mahathir said his party Pejuang lost all 125 seats that it contested and he accepted the people’s choice.

However, he still hopes that the winners would form the new government.

“As Pejuang lost in all 125 seats that it contested, the party will not be able to become an opposition in the Dewan Rakyat.”

“All Pejuang’s plans have to be abandoned. All we can do is to observe the administration of the winning party,” he said.

He added Pejuang will continue to pray for the country to heal and overcome the issues it is facing.

To focus on writing

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir said he will be focusing on writing about the country’s history and activities.

“I believe there are various incidents in the country that have not been recorded, including what occurred during the British era. I am also open to being interviewed by writers,” he said.

Dr Mahathir contested the Langkawi parliamentary seat in GE15 but he failed to defend his seat for the second term, securing only 4,566 votes out of 48,123 votes in a five-cornered contest.

In addition, all the candidates who contested under Pejuang have lost their deposits, including his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who failed to defend the Jerlun seat.
