The 15th General Election results has concluded with Pakatan Harapan (PH) winning the most number of seats at 82 seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) winning 73, Barisan Nasional (BN) at 30, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) at 22, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) at 6, while the others made up 6.
With this, it is again a hung Parliament, with PH and PN claiming to possess the magic number to form a federal government.
PN was initially set to form the government with the same coalition that we have seen before — an alliance with GPS, GRS and its former ally, BN.
At 3 am this morning, PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he received a letter from Istana Negara informing him of the conditions they need to fulfill to form the next federal government.
“To form the government, we will discuss with the coalitions in Sabah and Sarawak soon. To ensure better stability, we are willing to accept any party which is willing to accept our caring, clean and stable principles.”
“If we form a government with those with the same view, our priority is to fulfil all promises we made throughout our campaign.
“We say no to Pakatan Harapan,” Muhyiddin was quoted as saying by The Star.
PH has the magic number too!
Meanwhile, PH similarly held a press conference with its chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declaring that he had the magic number to form the next federal government. However, he did not reveal his exact numbers, or from where.
“What I am submitting to you is facts, not rumours. The rumours are with Muhyiddin,” Anwar said, reported Malay Mail.
Nonetheless, UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi admitted that BN has lost the general election and is willing to contribute to the formation of a stable government. At the same time, there were voices from the ground that asked for his resignation as the UMNO president.
