The Hyundai Kona Electric may now be rented from Hertz Malaysia after a slightly lengthier wait than anticipated. The Sime Darby Motors subsidiary is providing a significant discount on the daily rental cost for the EV through the end of this year to celebrate the introduction.
In particular, you can now rent the Kona Electric for RM240 per day rather than the RM480 it usually costs. Currently, there is no mileage limit, and each car comes with a chargEV card and an AC charging connection so that customers may charge the Kona all the while they are renting it.
Although the promotional materials on its Facebook and Instagram page only mentioned Klang Valley, Shanmugam Kalimuthu, the Head of Operations for Sime Darby Rent A Car Sdn Bhd (SDRAC) informed Lowyat.NET that the Kona Electric can also be obtained in Penang and Johor Bharu. The majority of Hertz Malaysia’s Kona Electric fleet is located in Klang Valley at the company’s premises in KLIA 1 & 2, Subang Airport, and Soho Suite.
According to the WLTP standard, the Kona Electric used by Hertz Malaysia for its rental fleet is the e-Lite model, which has a maximum range of 305 kilometres. Using a 39.2kWh battery and Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC connectors, it requires approximately 4.5 hours to fully charge with an 11kW AC charger. However, using a 100kW DC charger can cut the charging time even further, to 47 minutes.
This particular model includes a front-wheel drive system and a 100 kW motor with a maximum torque of 395 Nm and 136 PS of power. The EV has a maximum speed of 155 km/h and an acceleration time of 9.9 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h.
