Caretaker Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has proposed that the PerantiSiswa Keluarga Malaysia programme be extended to all Malaysian students should Barisan Nasional (BN) wins the 15th General Election (GE15).
He also said that these electronic gadgets are important to all students, be it from B40 or T20, because learning is conducted online these days.
According to Malaysia Gazette, Khairy stressed that this is not an empty promise and he will be bringing up this proposal to the Prime Minister to have this initiative implemented every year.
Elaborating further, he said that during his visit to UiTM Seremban campus, many of the students told him that they were not eligible for the PerantiSiswa tablet, and even if they did, it is an obsolete device.
Khairy also said that he is confident with the students across the nation would be responsible and not resell the devices given to them, adding that he noted only a handful of them did that.
“I think this device will help the recipient a lot,” he said.
Tablets are necessity these days
He also said that the devices are no longer considered a luxury item but are essential tools for graduates and students, especially the B40 group.
He added that ever since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was implemented, online learning had been the mainstream. Thus, making tablets a necessity for students.
“I felt sorry for students who had to borrow their parents’ handphones with small screens,”
“If we want to be a 5G nation, we need to provide our students with the necessary gadgets. If we become the government, we will give all students the free tablets,” he was quoted as saying.
