Recently, a drama erupted in Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), where both Datuk Larry Sng and Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin were fighting to grab hold of the party’s leadership.
Earlier, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin announced that she has since replaced Larry as the new president of fledgling PBM. The appointment was later confirmed by secretary-general Nor Hiizwan Ahmad in a statement.
However, in a quick twist, Larry insisted that he is still the President of PBM. At the same time, he also suspended several Supreme Council members of the party with immediate effect, including Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin “as an ordinary member of PBM”.
The reason given for the suspension was that these individuals had undermined the interest of the party and the leadership.
Those who were suspended included Deputy President Haniza Mohamad Talha, vice presidents Rahimah Majid, Sathiskumar Govindaraju and Muhammad Saiful Bahari Sahari; Youth chief Na’im Brundage; Women’s chief Dr Daroyah Alwi and Youth women’s chief Muniraa Abu Bakar.
Also on the list were Abdul Aziz Abdul Kadir, Zakaria Abdul Rahim, Datuk Chua Lian Chye, Datuk Roger Tan Seng Huat and Albakri Salim.
In a Facebook post, he said that such political manoeuvring undermined the trust of his leadership and caused much confusion among party members and the public.
“As such their positions will be suspended until a disciplinary committee is set up to look into the matter after the election,” he added.
Meanwhile, he also called for an urgent supreme council meeting in Sarikei, Sarawak on 30 October to discuss and resolve the issue.
“I shall be exercising the provision Clause 21 (ii) of the party constitution to allow the meeting to be held less than the required seven days notice. Those who have been suspended will not be invited to attend the meeting,” he said, adding that letters or suspension have been sent to the said individuals.
What happened earlier?
In early October, Zuraida announced that she has replaced Datuk Larry Sng as the new president of PDM after receiving unanimous support of delegates who attended the party’s inaugural general assembly.
It was reported that PBM information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid said Selangor representative Jaafar Wahyu had proposed Zuraida to take over the number one position as PBM president.
However, Larry insisted that he is still the legitimate president of the party and that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) records showed the same.
However, Nor Hizwan claimed that Nor Hiizwan claimed that Larry was no longer holding the post and showed the press screenshots of WhatsApp conversations with Sng that implied that Zuraida was the president.
