Some people would choose to bribe their way out of trouble, but such unethical methods would sometimes backfire.
Recently, a man in Johor Bahru who tried to bribe the police to release his friend, who was being investigated for a fake online job offer syndicate, was arrested by the police instead.
In a statement, Johor Police Chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the 31-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday (18 October) after he met up with the police at a restaurant near Taman Suria to offer a RM90,000 bribe.

“During the meeting, the suspect took out cash amounting to RM90,000 and offered to the police officer involved as an inducement to release his friend,” he said.
Kamarul said the police officer had warned him against offering bribes but the suspect insisted that he accept the money.
“The suspect was arrested shortly after, and the cash he trying to hand over to the police was seized,” he said.
According to Kamarul, the police has referred the case to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Johor for further investigation.
Job scam syndicates
This came after the police raided an apartment on Jalan Tanjung Puteri, Johor Bahru on Tuesday noon (18 October), where the police believed the apartment was used as a call center making non-existent online job offers.
Kamarul said that the police arrested a 26-year-old foreign man and confiscated the equipment used to contact and deceive victims.
“After the police conducted an initial investigation, the raid team received a call from an unknown man who claimed to be a friend of the person arrested in the raid.
“The man wanted to meet the police at a restaurant in Taman Suria before offering the bribe,” he said.
With this, Kamarul warned the public against offering bribes to the police force.
