Accusations and slanders had become rampant as the politicians raced to get support from the public to vote for them in the 15th General Election (GE15).
In an interview with Sinar Harian, Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin bin Abdul Rahman claimed that the Ministry of Finance (MOF) had suffered racial discrimination under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) governance from 2018 to 2020.
He also claimed that the former finance minister Lim Guan Eng brought his team into the Finance Ministry and they hardly worked during that time.
Furthermore, Tajuddin claimed that the former finance minister had expelled many Malay officials and decorated the MOF premise as if it was a Chinese temple.
“What merit does he has? If there is any, it is to hang lanterns. During his tenure, the Ministry of Finance’s office was full of lanterns and no one did their job.”
“This is why we cannot let PH rule the country,” he said.
Tajuddin’s claim went viral on social media, with many netizens criticising him as a narcissist and anti-intellectual person who constantly deceive people with his lies. Among them were a former MOF staff, who felt that there is a need for her to clear the accusations.
According to Rahman Ghazali, who worked in MOF for four months, the ministry took in Malaysians of all races as part of their team and they did not decorate the office as Tajuddin alleged.
She also said that the staff there were always busy and had to go home late.
Saya kerja dgn menteri MoF selama 4 bulan selepas pembangkang ambil alih kjaan. Melayu ramai je, masa hari raya setiap dept buat open house. Pejabat menteri tu takde hiasan apa, default dari menteri lama. Team dia semua bangsa ada, dan hari2 sibuk selalu kena balik lambat.— Rahmah Ghazali (@rahmahghazali) October 18, 2022
On the other hand, journalist Hadi Azim also trashed Tajuddin’s claim and shared a picture of the former finance minister sitting in the MOF office, where it looked exactly the same during the PH and BN administrations, with the scriptures from the Quran hung on the wall.

Nonetheless, Tajuddin is no stranger to controversy due to his unpredictable behaviour.
In May last year, he was terminated as the Prasarana chairman after he said that two LRT trains ‘kissed’ following the incident where two trains from the Kelana Jaya Line LRT collided head on, resulting in 213 individuals being injured and 47 seriously injured.
