Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) mobilisation bureau will mobilise the coalition’s volunteers to help with the evacuation of flood victims and their belongings when needed.
In a statement, the Bureau chairman, who is also Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said this move is taken following the orders of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Sunday (9 October) as his Majesty called on all relevant agencies to make preparations in facing the risk of flooding during this monsoon season.
“On our part, we are preparing our volunteer machinery at all levels to equip them for deployment in high-risk areas.”
“We are ready to work with anyone who can provide expertise and assistance to minimise the loss of property due to floods,” he said.
At the same time, he said the bureau needs to get as much volunteer manpower as possible. Thus, they will be issuing registration forms to the public to sign up as volunteers.
Last week, the Meteorological Department forecasted that heavy rain and thunderstorms could be expected from October to November as the country moves through the monsoon transition phase.
The department also urged the public to stay vigilant during this period and keep themselves updated on weather forecasts and warnings.
At the same time, Mohamad Sabu also noted that floods have already struck certain parts of Sabah and Sarawak.
