TikTok’s success has not only created a new experience for social media users, but gave birth to many opportunities for content creators across the world. Apart from helping content creators earn sponsorships and ambassadorships, it seems that TikTok is a great avenue to earn some side income too!

Originally posted on the @MalaysianPayGap Instagram account, a university student shared how he earned up to RM4,000 a month by being a content creator as a side hustle.

According to the TikToker, he started creating content to be posted on TikTok in January this year and he managed to gather up to 1 million followers.

Despite being a student, he shared that TikTok allows its content creator to earn money through obtaining live gifts, video gifts, and paid reviews. He added that he did livestreams whenever he is free to earn some pocket money.

He claimed that for a two-hour livestream, he is able to earn around USD$50 (≈RM232).

With this, their income earn on the social media platform averages to USD$1,000 (RM4,639) a month.

He said those on the weekly rankings on TikTok could earn as much as USD$2,600 (≈RM12,061).

“My advice is to keep posting your videos on TikTok, I started my TikTok in January,” he said.

TikTok Creator Fund

Content creators can apply for the TikTok Creator Fund after reaching certain criteria. The feature allows creators on TikTok to earn funds based on their account and video performance on the app.

However, the feature is currently not available for Malaysian TikTokers.

Nonetheless, Malaysian TikTokers can still earn money through sponsorship, affiliate marketing, ambassadorship and virtual gifts, just like what this TikToker did.

As for the Weekly Rankings, it is a ranking system that rates creators based on the number of Diamonds collected during a livestream. The more diamonds a creator collects during their streams, the higher their ranking.

In addition, creators who are in the weekly top 20 livestream hosts are awarded special prizes.
