Those who have a bad habit of jumping tolls, be aware! The authorities have started taking enforcement action by catching those who do.

Toll jumping is when one decides to tailgate another driver at a toll booth so the boom gate does not close down before they pass and thus, avoiding payment.

On Wednesday (28 September), Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) took to its official Twitter account to share its latest operation to detain drivers at the toll booth for being a toll jumper.

“Drivers who do not pay toll have been detained. As a result of the efforts to detect toll jumpers that are carried out regularly, several vehicles were successfully detained at the Dato Keramat Toll Plaza, Lebuhraya AKLEH last night,” the post reads.

According to the photo AKLEH shared, it showed a Proton X50 driver who was stopped at the toll booth and was forced to make payment for his arrear toll payments on the spot.

“One of the vehicles detained was a Proton X50 with an arrear of toll payment amounting to RM57.50, and the amount of the loss was returned at the same time and location.”

“PROLINTAS continues to actively conduct operations to detect toll jumpers through the highway operations team to arrest irresponsible users to pay for their toll arrears,” AKLEH wrote.

Meanwhile, netizens were quick to criticise those who seemingly capable of paying the tolls but choose not to.

“They can afford to buy a new car but can’t pay tolls,” a netizen said sarcastically.

“They should impose a 10 times penalty on the arrears so that people will not do it again,” another netizen said.

Nonetheless, some netizens suggested that the authorities should name and shame these toll jumpers.
