Two cases of abandoned babies reported in the country in 2 days

Social NewsTwo cases of abandoned babies reported in the country in 2 days

Taking care of a baby is not an easy task, and couples are advised to only give birth to one when they are ready to welcome a new life.

Unfortunately, two cases of abandoned babies were reported in just the last few days, one middle of the street in Keningau, Sabah, while the other near Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

The first incident took place last Saturday (24 September) and it was reported by the Jabatan Netizen Malaysia Twitter page. In the tweet, the page shared that the baby was found in the middle of Kg. Kirokot street near Kumawanan at 4 am en route to Keningau.

When discovered, blood stains can be seen on the side of the baby’s head, suggesting that it is a newborn.

Meanwhile, the second incident was reported on the following day (25 September) by Twitter user @zahierhamir. The baby was discovered near the stalls surrounding the Bukit Jalil area.

According to the user, the baby was four months old and appeared to be kept in a plastic bag with a milk bottle. It is said that the baby was vaccinated before being abandoned.

Meanwhile, netizens were quick to criticise the parents for abandoning their child, even more so, for putting it in the middle of the road.

“What kind of person abandons their child in the middle of the road?” a netizen said.

“There are those who want a baby so badly, but the couple decided to just abandon theirs,” another netizen said.

On the other hand, some netizens expressed sympathy for the parents and we do not understand what they are going through.

“We shouldn’t accuse them of abandoning their baby. I think they left the baby because of unsettled issues. Maybe she hoped that a kind-hearted person would take care of the baby,” a netizen said.

Nonetheless, the baby that was discovered near Bukit Jalil is now under the care of the authorities, but there were no further updates on the baby discovered on Kg. Kirokot street.

For those who do not know, parents who are guilty of abandoning their child may face a prison sentence of 10 years or more under Penal Code Section 307.
