Public assets are meant only for the benefit of the public, and they should never be used for a person’s private interest. Unfortunately, such abuses remain widespread in the country.
Recently, a letter by Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz to the Kota Baru Municipal Council requesting the local authority for manpower to help out at his daughter’s wedding went circulating online.
Among the other requests was to supply tables and chairs, floral decorations, as well as traffic officers to help control the traffic during the wedding.

According to Getaran, a source from the Municipal Council has confirmed the authenticity of a letter and he said the items requested were sent to the venue after instructions were issued by the council’s top management.
“The letter was really from YB (Nik Abduh).”
“We received instructions today to deliver tables, chairs, and floral decorations for his daughter’s event tomorrow,” the source was quoted as saying.

The letter dated 20 September was purportedly received by council president Rosnazli Amin two days later on 22 September.
The wedding is expected to be held on 25 September at Masjid Tok Guru and SMU (A) Darul Anuar in Kota Baru.
On social media, netizens were quick to criticise the politician, pointing out that he is misusing public services and equipment for a private event.
“Your daughter is getting married but why the public should foot the bill?” a netizen asked.
Meanwhile, netizens also took the opportunity to criticise the Islamist party for the hypocrisy of their leaders.
