MUDA slams Zahid for being power-crazy and pushing for GE15 despite country facing monsoon season and flood

NewsMUDA slams Zahid for being power-crazy and pushing for GE15 despite country...

MUDA president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has condemned UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his push for the 15th general election (GE15) to be held this year, despite the country facing the monsoon season.

In a tweet, Muar MP Syed Saddiq labelled Zahid as ‘crazy’ for willing to wade through floods to campaign for GE15, while launching the BN Youth election machinery on Saturday (17 September).

“For the sake of power, they are willing to put people at risk by forcing them to face the floods!” Syed Saddiq wrote.

He then recounted how the devastating floods last year caused over 50 deaths, 500,000 people displaced, and property losses of RM10 billion.

“Imagine this year, floods and election?.. That’s crazy!” Syed Saddiq said.

On Saturday (17 September), Zahid said despite the possibility of floods, BN, which he heads as the coalition’s chairman, is willing to face floods in the campaign. At the same time, he also reminded all BN parties and wings to work hard even if floods strike. “We are willing to campaign when there is flooding or heavy rain,” he said.

Zahid then called for Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to do what is appropriate after tabling Budget 2023 on 7 October and to make sure it has ‘goodies’ for the people.

Meanwhile, MUDA secretary-general Amira Aisya Abd Aziz also expressed a similar sentiment to Syed Saddiq as she took to her TikTok account to criticise Zahid for mooting such an idea.

“It is an insensitive statement of Zahid to force PM Ismail Sabri to call for elections knowing that the country will face massive floods.”

“Why make floods into political propaganda when it causes so much hardship to people, such as loss of property and even loss of life,” Amira said.

She said that instead of being power-crazy, the UMNO-BN government should be focusing on developing flood mitigation and rescue and recovery plans for the country.
